Cultural Tour
Want to meet and interact with our locals? We’ll take you into the heart of our informal Settlements
DISTRICT SIX
This area is largely deserted now but there is a
Museum covering the rather unhappy history. It was originally an extensive area with a cosmopolitan collection of people; these included many Muslim Cape Malays brought to work for the Dutch East India Company. There was a smaller population of whites and African peoples. The Apartheid Government removed and relocated 60,000 people in 1968 stating it was a den of iniquity hosting crime, drugs and prostitution. Come and get a feel for the heart of South Africa during this enlightening visit.
Langa Township
This was a planned township unlike many others which were dismal failures. Langa literally means ‘Sun’. It actually incorporates the name Langalibalele who in 1873 was a Tribal Chief and renowned rainmaker. He stood against the Natal Government and was imprisoned at Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was sent. In 2005 a cultural centre named Guga Sthebe was opened. Churches play an important role in this area and sport and education are valued.

Khayelitsha
Khayelitsha which means ‘New Home’ is one of Cape Town’s largest townships. A tour of Khayelitsha Township will afford you a journey through numerous craft shops selling curios, pottery, beadwork, baskets, and fabric paintings. You can also eat at an authentic ‘African Restaurant’. There is the Look-Out-Hill tourist facility which houses an ‘Arts and Science Centre’, a restaurant, gift shop and information area. You can even visit the World’s smallest Hotel and on Sundays even attend a Church Service.
